Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster`s (*1965, Strasbourg) practice is restlessly cross-disciplinary, taking cues from film, literature, architecture, philosophy and critical theory. Recently she had solo exhibitions at Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, MAAT Museum of Art Architecture and Technology Leipzig, K20 Kunstsammlung Nordreinwestfahlen, Centre Pompidou Paris, Museum of Modern Art Rio de Janeiro, Museo Nacional de Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Tate Modern in London. Works by her were included in the Documenta (2011), as well as in the Venice Biennale (1990, 1993, 1999, 2003, 2009, 2019).

The photography „Helen & Gordon“ is a tribute to a famous photograph of Helen
Frankenthaler by Gordon Parks, which was commissioned by Life magazine
in the 1950ies. With this work Gonzalez-Foerster gave the most important female Abstract Expressionist Helen Frankenthaler and the photographer Gordon Parks, who became famous as a movie director for his Blaxsploitation Movies, a stage.
A large-scale picture of „Helen &  Gordon“ was on display as the safety curtain at the Vienna State Opera from September 2015 till June 2016. In doing so the artist gave two people who had to fight prejudices against their race and gender one of the most important cultural stages in Europe.
This photography was issued by Museum in Progress as an edition of 20, numbered and signed by the artist.

Works by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster are part of international collections like Centre Pompidou, Fondation Louis Vuitton,  Dia Art Foundation, M+ Museum Hong Kong, Moderna Museet Stockholm, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Tate Modern London.
